Member Expectations

Rotary members are encouraged to actively contribute their time, talents, and resources in a manner that aligns with their lifestyle. The workplace is not what it was 20 years ago. We often have to dispel common misconceptions, revealing that many preconceived notions are no longer accurate. Here are some common myths:
  • MYTH You have to attend every lunch meeting.  TRUTH: Rotary lifted mandatory attendance at club meetings years ago! Rotarians are encouraged to attend as often as they can as it is a key in building relationships and community.
  • MYTH Rotary is for retired business owners. TRUTH: Rotary is for community minded people who reflect the motto Service Above Self
  • MYTH Membership costs $5,000: TRUTH: Club dues are not that expensive; different club have different dues. Check the membership page
  • MYTH Rotary is a men's club: TRUTH: Rotary clubs are encouraged to reflect the diversity of the communities in which they serve. All are welcome!

While there are member dues, attendance at formal lunch meetings and fellowship events is encouraged. Ultimately, your level of involvement is adaptable to your current life circumstances, recognizing that there may be times when you can contribute more or less.
